Affiliations with Other Organizations

HHP maintains cordial relationships with a number of sister organizations working in Haiti. In a country as challenging as Haiti, progress is made when people work together.

Haiti Healthcare Partners is one of four organizations with deep commitment to the Grande Colline region of Haiti. Each has its area of specialization:

All share a desire to work together, helping Haitians help themselves. All are committed to working with the local, registered Haitian Board, OCDES (Christian Organization for Economic and Social Development), whose members guide the community development of the Grande Colline region.

HHP would be pleased to work with other organizations who could offer specialized expertise to further our progress.

Floresta

Floresta helps villages learn better methods of cultivationSince 1997, Floresta (www.floresta.org) has worked in the Grande Colline region of Haiti and elsewhere in the world, planting thousands of trees that supply soils with nutrients and families with food.

Through farmer cooperatives, Floresta empowers villagers to make the most of their land, planting compatible crops and trees, and learning important irrigation techniques. Farmers receive up to six-fold increases in crop yield. Floresta teaches the power of working together, the power of Christ.

Beyond trees and farming, Floresta’s successful credit program lifts families out of poverty. Often, in Haiti, it’s a Haitian woman – a single parent – who finds a new life of hope through the helping hand of Floresta.

Haiti Healthcare Partners will continue to work closely with Floresta, leveraging its village cooperatives as sites for community health worker visits.

Graduation dayHaiti Education Foundation

The Haiti Education Foundation (www.haitifoundation.org; HEF) is the result of one woman’s effort to make a difference in the lives of the children of Haiti. Through the ongoing generosity of supporters across the U.S., HEF educates over 14,000 children and is changing their lives. Learn more about HEF!

Haiti Healthcare Partners now brings to these children and their families first-ever medical care and health education. We work closely with the Haiti Education Foundation in our planning and operations to fully leverage all opportunities.

Village children outside the schoolhouseThough not all children of Grande Colline are yet in school, there are over 13,000 more poses like this one, thanks to Haiti Education Foundation.

Living Waters for the World

Living Waters for the World (www.livingwatersfortheworld.org) is the mission project of the Synod of Living Waters of the Presbyterian Church (USA), in Franklin, Tennessee. The organization serves as a resource to churches and others in mission. It enables them to bring pure water to their partners in need and to empower their partners to continue to purify their water on an ongoing basis.

Haiti Healthcare Partners is working closely with Living Waters, planning an upcoming water purification system for the medical clinic in Cherident. Living Waters has previously worked in Cherident, and HHP is excited about the near-term prospect of enabling the clinic to have clean water.

OCDES Board

For two decades, Episcopal priest Jean Wilfrid Albert was the driving force behind the development of the Grande Colline region. A wise man who understood well the challenges of making progress in Haiti, Pere Albert began succession planning years before cancer claimed his life in 2004.

Pere Albert personally selected and discipled for a number of years several trusted community leaders. The OCDES Board (Christian Organization for Economic and Social Development) includes:

  • Jean Ancy Fils Aime
  • Harry Theodore
  • Father Irnel
  • Jean Manesse
  • Jean Robert

While Haiti Healthcare Partners sets the overall direction for improving heath care in Grade Colline, the OCDES Board governs hiring, sets salaries, and oversees the daily operation of the medical clinic. The Boards of HHP and OCDES are in very close partnership and regular communication.
